Getting on your Strata Council
The following question was submitted through our Contact Form and we thought the Question and Answer may help other strata condo owners.
Q: How do I get on my strata council?
A: Every owner is eligible to sit on council as long as you are the registered owner and are in good standing (have no fees owing). Council members are elected at the Annual General Meeting.
Before the next Annual General Meeting, you can campaign amongst other owners to let them know you would like to serve the strata by being on council. You could also volunteer to help the current council members carry out their duties by offering to head up a committee (Landscape committee or maybe the General Building Maintenance committee). By volunteering you can get your name listed in the minutes to let other owners know you are involved and the current council members are likely to recognize your commitment.
The final key at the AGM is to get someone to nominate you and it cannot be your spouse!
