I own a condo and I had a flood a few weeks ago when I was out of town for a few hours. ( A pipe was left on in my daughter's bathroom). The water went from my apartment into the one below and into the one on the ground floor!

I replace the popcorn on the ceiling of the apartment below mine. The lady on the ground floor claimed that the water damaged her computer. A technician looked and said the problem has nothing to do with the water. Well she was just a crook!

Anyway a few weeks later the owner of the apartment on the second floor called to inform me that there are new water spots on her ceiling! There was no flooding and the first was a month ago.

While I want to resolve this issue it is clear that the building has faults. Plus while it is my floor, it is also her roof!

I don't want people to constantly be calling me and for me to be constantly having the expense of fixing there home. This isn't fair!

What is the law as it relates to this situation? What is the best way to handle it?

Does your strata belong to one of the strata associations in BC ? If so, you could call it. You may get some useful info for free.
